Stamping my Feet in Anger.

Hi

This is a longer post from me than usual but I hope you stay with me to the end.

I am not sure who will read this post as I don't have much traffic unless I link my post

to  on-line communities such as Paint Party Friday or WOYWW,

two of which I have joined in in recent times.

However, this post is for my faithful few blogger friends that visit me

regularly and those who still stop by occasionally to catch up with what I have been up to.

The main reason for this post I will get on to in a minute but first I wanted to say this,

which is in a way related.

Lately, I have  become a little disillusioned with the whole social media and networking thing.

Now that I have joined Facebook I am privy to more of what is going on in the on-line community

and I was surprised, albeit  naively, to see very accomplished

artists on Facebook and YouTube talking about how they have coped along the way with people

leaving nasty comments, not only on their Art, but on them personally.

I saw a case in point over on an artist's  Facebook page today.  The comment that was made wasn't

even about her work but the artists apperance.

There is really no need!

If you don't like what you see and don't have anything positive to say then

just say nothing and don't visit again.

Now for the main reason for this post.

I hope you are still with me co' this is my main reason for this post.

When it comes to social media I am very low key in the grand scheme of things but even

us little guys seem to get touched by the nastier side of cyber-space.

Yesterday I opened my Reading List on Blogger to find it inundated with posts from sights

I do not follow.

I looked on blogger help forums and found that this has happened to other people

in the past but no recent posts on the subject.

with out going onto too much detail it seem it could be cos' someone I follow

has been hacked or sold their 'feed' for want of a better word to a third party that spams you.

I went through all the sights I follow and couldn't find the effected one.

I recently followed someone new which I have now un-followed as this happened

just after but has not made any difference.

Someone deleted all her reading list and it solved the problem  so that is what I am going to do now.

Unfortunately that means I won't be prompted when blogs I follow post.

If this resolves the situation I will gradually follow my favourite blogs again but if the spam

continues I will not be able to use my reading List and

will have to take pot luck visiting my favourite blogs.

I would be interested to hear if anyone has had the same problem.

Well if you have stuck it out till the end...... Thank you.

No Art today as you have probably dropped off to sleep by now.

Till next time..........xx

  1. I saw the video Wyanne made too. I can't believe that someone would make a comment about her appearance and the horrific struggle she's been through. Some people just plain suck, that's all there is to it. I hope Karma deals with them!
As to your spam problem I don't have any advice more than what you've already said/done. I hope it solves your dilemma. :-/

  2. I must say I've been lucky and seen very little unpleasantness but I find it shocking and hard to understand why people can be so very cruel and hateful to others on social media. I am sorry your blog friend is having a hard time, it's often only a tiny, tiny minority that make life difficult for the rest of us - but it has a heck of an impact at times. I've been meaning to set up a reading list but never got round to it, and also didn't know that that is what it was called - now I think I've gone this far without one, I'll carry on as I am! Good luck sorting your problem.

  3. Hi Carol,
I just stumbled on your blog & am glad I did - love your work!

Fortunately, I have not experienced the problems you are having. And I signed off Facebook a long time ago. It was getting to the point of feeling like I was in high school again. I am not the only one who feels like this and many of my friends & fellow artists have deleted their accounts.

So sorry for your problems with blogging. I can't really offer any help - just sympathy. Wishing you the best.

  4. Hello Carol, it is a sad state of affairs isn't it, I agree and sympathise with everything you've said. I'm not sure what gives people the right to fling out those words of hate.
We are very low key on facebook but mostly use the private messaging for close family... that's the only good thing about it lol :D)
Glad you've sorted out your problems about the reading list, for some reason I've never used it much as I use my sidebar to see new posts from other bloggers. Lately, I've started to follow by email subscription when that widget is displayed and will see how that goes.
Oh, and I loved your lady at the start of this post... she also seems to share your thoughts and I admire her pretty headgear and dress. Cheers now :D)

  5. Personally I loved hearing what you have to say! It gives us a little peek into who you are not only as an artist but as a person! Your gorgeous art piece is perfect for this post with her beautiful outfit and matching expression!! I agree one hundred percent. Unfortunately there are too many mean trolls out there with nothing better to do! It's more about them than the person they're writing about! As for spam I have had that....that's why I moderate my blog comments now!! It was filtered all through my blog and I had to go back years to find all the garbage links that were pretty horrid!! I think many bloggers have been through that too!! All the best and it's really good to hear your writers voice and get to know your heart a little better!!
